Course: The foundations of technical analysis

Lesson Insights

Trend-like movements

Another assumption of technical analysis is that market prices tend to move in trends. Technical analysts believe that price trends persist over time, and that these trends can be identified and used to make informed investment decisions. For example, if a security's price has been consistently rising over a period of time, a technical analyst might believe that this upward trend will continue in the future. Conversely, if a security's price has been consistently falling, a technical analyst might believe that this downward trend will also persist. By identifying and following these trends, technical analysts aim to make informed investment decisions and profit from price movements in the market.
